Rail Safety Systems, in conjunction with Acmena, will be presenting at the TrackSAFE Foundation Level Crossing Safety Forum in Sydney on Monday 8 August.

Supported by Acmena Principal Systems Assurance Consultant, Steve Dawkins, Rail Safety Systems’ presentation ‘New Technology, Trial Process and Implementation’ will detail the journey of developing, trialling and obtaining type approval for its Rail Active Crossing System (RAXS).

Currently in operation at a site near Oakey, Queensland, RAXS is a high integrity, SIL 3/SIL 4 active control system designed to provide rail operators with a cost-effective solution to improve safety at level crossings in rural and remote areas.

Using a combination of wireless technology and solar power, RAXS substantially reduces installation time and cost by removing the need for mains power or cabling requirements that necessitate expensive earthworks.

Hosted by RSS Managing Director, Dagmar Parsons, the presentation will outline the challenges and processes involved with developing a novel, high integrity crossing system and demonstrating its compliance to CENELEC standards EN 50126, 50128 and 50129 to highly demanding SIL 3 and SIL 4 requirements.

In 2018, Acmena was engaged by Rail Safety Systems to provide systems assurance and safety management support and is delighted to have played a role in helping RSS to develop the system and subsequently obtain type approval.
